Seattle’s experimental R&B artist Falon Sierra has just dropped her debut EP Damaged by System. It’s a body of work that reimagines classic genres, from the first track ‘What’s Wrong!?!?’, which has a dancehall feel, to ‘Dark Room’ which touches on an emo side. ‘Sound of Love’ is the penultimate song on the EP. A lazy, moody beat with tonnes of delay and reverb are the bed for the other musical elements to grow including a sampled vocal snippet, and lengthy dark, resonant synths. Falon’s vocals are diverse - from flawless and powerful, to soft and controlled parts, whilst the distortion on her vocals resides in the land of trip hop, reminiscent of 90s artist Tricky. ‘Sound of Love’ uses innovative electronic production paired with top-notch R&B vocals to produce an ominous and passionate track. -Ellie Rose-Davies
